LAYTON - There’s a lot of young talent in Davis County, and the Davis Arts Council wants to see it all.
Audition applications for this year’s “Show Layton Your Talent” are due May 2 by 5 p.m., with audition night set for May 10 from 4-10 p.m. at Layton High School. This year’s competition is focusing on performers ages 18 and younger.
“We’re looking for singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, actors and more,” said Sara Avis, the administrative assistant at the Davis Arts Council.
Those who are interested in auditioning need to fill out an application form, available online at davisarts.org under the “Show Layton Your Talent” listing on the calendar. Everyone who fills out an application must be able to provide proof that they are 18 or younger, and winners of previous editions of “Show Layton Your Talent” are not allowed to audition.
As usual, the auditions are open to everyone, not just Layton residents.
The completed entries, along with a parent signature, need to be turned in to Layton City’s parks and recreation department or e-mailed to email@example.com. All entries need to be in by the May 2 deadline.
“After we receive the person’s application, we’ll call them and set up a specific audition time,” said Avis.
Group performances are also welcome, though they can’t include more than 10 people. All performances must be under four minutes long, and actors are advised to focus on monologues or brief scenes.
Those auditioning will be notified the night of May 10 whether they have been chosen to perform at the main event, which will be held June 21 as part of the Davis Arts Council’s Summer Nights With the Stars concert series.
The audience and a panel of judges will choose the final winners that evening, with both the first place winner and audience favorite receiving $500. Second place will receive $250, and third place will receive $100.
First, though, teens will have to earn a place onstage.
“Just be yourself,” said Avis. “We want to showcase your talent, but we also want to showcase who you are.”
