WOODS CROSS – Win, lose or draw, both the Bountiful Braves and Woods Cross Wildcats knew their playoff fates before they faced each other Tuesday afternoon at Woods Cross High School.

Bountiful is win. Woods Cross is not.

Backed by a three-goal first half, the Braves were able to down the Wildcats 4-1 to finish in second place in the Region 6 standings, guaranteeing them a first round home match when the 4A state playoffs begin next week.

Nate Smith got the Braves on the scoreboard with the first two goals in the game. The first goal was scored two minutes into the game, and the second came eight minutes later in the 10th minute.

The Braves kept the offense going early, scoring their third goal in the 14th minute and holding the Wildcats scoreless to take a 3-0 first half lead.

Woods Cross started as the aggressor in the second half by pushing the ball deep into Bountiful territory on multiple occasions, but were unable to push the ball into the net until the 71 st minute of play.

Before bringing the score to 3-1, Woods Cross had a corner kick opportunity come up short of the net and a set piece hit off the cross bar and the sidebar, but not into the net.

With nine minutes remaining in the match, Gabe Morris was able to score from inside the box.

Bountiful responded two minutes later after Alex Simpson found a hole in the defense for the Braves final goal in the match.
