SYRACUSE — No matter who wins, Friday night’s basketball game between the Syracuse police and fire departments can only end in a victory for a boy battling cancer.

The  teams will tip off Friday night, May, 9 at Syracuse Junior High School, 1450 S. 2000 West. Proceeds from the game and a silent auction will go to help defray medical costs associated with the medical treatment 7-year-old Grant Goodsell is undergoing, according to Syracuse Police Officer Erin Behm.

In addition to the game and auction, the Utah Jazz Bear and the Jazz’s dancers will provide entertainment.

“There will be autographed items from the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, BYU, the University of Utah and much more, “at the auction, Behm said.

Goodsell recently had his left arm amputated because of the osteosarcoma cancer that has now spread to his lungs.

The fundraiser is a testimony to “the strength and courage Grant shows on a daily basis,” Behm said.

For more information, contact the Syracuse Police Department at 801-825-4400 or Syracuse Fire Department at 801-614-9618.
