Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Brandon Roundy said a deputy on routine patrol in the area noticed a heavily damaged vehicle southbound , and "way off the road, on the other side of the fence about 8:30 a.m.
Upon investigation, the deputy found the driver unconscious and still inside the vehicle. The man had to be extricated by South Davis Metro Fire Agency crews. Witnesses told investigators they had noticed the vehicle about 7:30 a.m., but assumed it had been left there during a previous accident. They had no idea there was a wounded man in the car, Roundy said.
The victim was flown by LifeFlight to IMC. Roundy didn't know what injuries the man sustained.
Investigators suspect both speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
