Vikings oust Grizzlies; Braves, Darts eliminated early

WOODS CROSS – The Viewmont Vikings soccer team advanced to Tuesday’s semi-finals after beating Copper Hills 2-1 last week.

Bountiful was eliminated from the playoffs after losing to Murray 4-1, and Davis lost in the first round of the playoffs, played last Tuesday.

Viewmont advanced to semis in 2-1 win

Mike Johnson scored both of the Vikings’ goals against Copper Hills in Thursday’s quarterfinal match held at Viewmont High School.

Johnson’s goals were enough to send the Vikings to Tuesday’s semi-finals as Viewmont beat Copper Hills 2-1.

Copper Hills took the initial lead in the game when Luis Vargas knocked in the Grizzlies’ first and only goal in the first half.

Johnson tied the game minutes later, then broke the tie late in the second half to lift the Vikings to the win.

Bountiful ousted after 4-1 loss to Murray

The Braves were eliminated in the first round of the 4A state soccer playoffs last Wednesday, losing to Murray 4-1.

Alex Simpson was the Braves’ only goal-scorer in the match. He scored in the second half to keep the Braves from being shut out. 

The goal was Simpson’s 19th of the season.

Davis eliminated in the first round by Riverton

The Darts were eliminated in the first round of the 5A soccer playoffs, losing to Riverton 2-0.

Brett Smith netted a goal in each half for the Silver Wolves. Parker Seegmiller go the shutout at the net.

Games this week

The 4A and 5A boys’ soccer finals will be played Thursday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

The 4A final will kick off at 4:30 p.m. The 5A final starts at 7 p.m.
