FARMINGTON — A 19-year-old Ogden man will have a sentencing hearing on June 19, for robbing an 18-year-old man in the Layton Kmart on Jan. 13.
Justin Hollis, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree felony robbery for the incident that took place in the restroom of the store.
Layton police said Hollis and Richard Ruiz-Aguilar, 19, also of Ogden, had arranged to meet a man in the restroom of Kmart to buy drugs.
However, police said that the two were not there to buy drugs but were planning to collect $35 owed to them on a previous drug deal. At the time of his arrest, Ruiz-Aguilar allegedly told police they had purchased drugs from the man in the past, but he had failed to deliver them.
When the 18-year-old didn’t hand over the money, a knife was allegedly brandished and a scuffle ensued. A store employee called police.
When police arrived, Hollis and Ruiz-Aguilar were found in the parking lot.
The 18-year-old and his friends were later located at a home in Layton. Officers did not find any drugs or any evidence the teen was dealing drugs, police said.
No one was injured in the incident.
