FARMINGTON – The Great Salt Lake Bird Festival was held at the Legacy Events Center in Farmington on Saturday, May 17.
Besides having a chance to see raptors up close, young participants built birdhouses and attended workshops.
Vendors shared outdoor gear, wildlife photography, bird houses and clay birds that could be used to make bird calls.
Workshops on bird calls and bird-sighting apps, plus field trips to Antelope Island, Farmington Bay and beyond were held.
Tim Boucher, a conservation geographer for Nature Conservancy and an expert birder, led workshops and gave the keynote address.
“There’s a lot of energy here,” said Neka Roundy, of the Great Salt Lake Advisory Council. “We’ve had great weather and we’ve seen a lot of birds.”
It is now possible to go to ebird.org to see all the birds seen by those who participated in festival field trips.
