OGDEN – Connor Blaisdell of Davis High School was one of four players from Davis County high schools to represent the 5A North team in Saturday’s Senior All-Star Games at Lindquist Field in Ogden.
Blaisdell went hitless at the plate but made numerous great defensive plays as the North team lost to the South, 9-3.
Blaisdell was only able to get two at-bats in Saturday’s game in part because he hit 10th in a line up of 17 batters.
He nearly got a third plate appearance, but was left in the on-deck circle in the ninth inning when Taylorsville’s Jordan West struck out swinging with runners on second and third with two outs.
The strike-out ended a brief two-run rally put together by the North.
Blaisdell’s defense shined during his appearances on the field; however. The senior was on the tail end of a double play in the first inning and had a pair of put- outs in foul territory to start the third inning.
He was also able to make a heads-up play in the fourth inning on a pick-off play when he quickly turned around to tag out Jake Boyd of Copper Hills.
He also pitched one inning to cap off his final game as a senior. Pitching in the sixth inning, Blaisdell allowed one hit but got the other batters out via fly balls.
Joining Blaisdell on the All-Star roster was Layton’s Caleb Harrop and Quentin Marcelin, and Northridge’s Robbie Vernon.
Marcelin went 0-for-2 at the plate with one walk, but was given the Coach’s Award for his defensive prowess during the game.
Harrop hit a single in the third inning but was left standing at first. He flew popped out to the short stop in his only other at-bat.
Vernon went hitless at the plate representing Northridge.
The North’s first run didn’t come until the sixth inning. Cottonwood’s Andrew Goodfellow scored on a base hit by Taylorsville’s Jordan West, making the score 7-1 at the time.
Weber High School’s Bridger Thorpe and West High’s Mason Abrath each scored a run for the North in the ninth inning to cap off the scoring for the North team.
Viewmont’s Isaac Evans was on the roster to play in the All-Star game for the North team, but was not at the game.
