LAYTON – Questar crews severed a gas line on Layton Monday afternoon, forcing the closure of Gentile Street for a few hours.

Layton Fire spokesman Doug Bitton told the Clipper that the Questar crew was digging in the area just before 4 p.m. when they hit the 2-inch line.

The gas leaked toward a small apartment complex, which prompted crews to evacuate the 4-unit building until 6 p.m.

Bitton said no one was hurt, but the road closure at Gentile and Fairfield (1000 East) caused a lot of traffic backup.

He added that the line was quickly repaired and that the situation was isolated and controlled within a short amount of time.
