OGDEN - Open house and rededication dates for the newly renovated Ogden Utah Temple have been set, and people who want to tour the building began scheduling visits on Monday.

The temple was closed in April 2011 for extensive renovation, which changed the exterior and updated rooms.

Open house tour reservations opened at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014, at

The public open house will begin on Friday, August 1, 2014, and run through Saturday, September 6, 2014, except for Sundays.

Appointments for living ordinances will be taken beginning Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 8:00 a.m.

Soon after the website opened for tour reservations, most prime evening spots were filled immediately. By Monday afternoon, the only tours available were in the mornings or afternoons. All weekend tours were booked.

Heavy online traffic caused the site to crash.

Jessica Moody, spokesperson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a statement regarding the website, saying, “Interest in the Ogden Utah Temple open house has been remarkable. While heavy demand caused difficulties for some individuals accessing the online reservation system this morning, the site is now running smoothly.”

The temple will be formally rededicated in three sessions on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., noon, and 3:00 p.m. Each of the sessions will be broadcast to Latter-day Saint meetinghouses in the three Utah areas and to congregations in Riverton, Wyoming.

In conjunction with the temple rededication, there will also be a cultural celebration featuring music and dance on Saturday, September 20, 2014.

The temple was originally dedicated in 1972, and serves members from Weber, Morgan and Davis Counties.
