SALT LAKE CITY – The Outdoor Retailer Summer Market is returning this year to Ogden’s Pineview Reservior and Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace Convention Center.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 5 and running through Saturday, Aug. 9, the Summer Expo is meant to showcase some of the more exciting items to come to outdoorsman.
Similar to last year, the Summer Expo will begin with “Day Zero” taking place at Ogden’s Pineview Reservoir Tuesday. Day Zero’s showcase typically includes outdoor items such as the newest line of wake boards, standing boards with paddles and hiking, biking, and exercise items meant for all types of outdoor people.
The summer market is also meant to showcase some of the top retailers. Last year companies such as Orvis, Sony and several other outdoor companies took part in the event.
Orvis, a fly-fishing company, took part in both Day Zero and did a “how-to” clinic on fly-fishing over the course of the week.
Other companies such as HVC and MineLab were also in attendance and are certain to be back with more items this year.
Outdoor Retailer’s website, outdoorretailer.com, outlined the summer market as a commitment “to delivering the widest and most comprehensive outdoor buyer demographic that has open-to-buy and a passion for the outdoors,” making the Summer Market one of the more unique experiences to come to the state of Utah.
Tagging along with the Fly Fishing demonstration were several other activities that on-lookers could take part in. Some included a climbing rock and an activity called “water yoga,” an exercise that has participants get into yoga positions while balancing their weight on a surfboard.
This year’s opening events will have a 5K trail run and an Outsiders Ball happening at the Ogden Location and the first ever Ragnar Relay Challenge, which will take place on Friday, Aug. 8 and is sponsored by Outdoor Retailer itself.
Other events will include how-to seminars and a number of different forums.
Several notable exhibitors expected to take part during the week include Body Glove, CamelBak Products, Lifetime Products (located in Davis County) and Zippo Outdoor.
The first three days of the Summer Market will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The expo will end on Saturday at 3 p.m.
