BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful’s 26th annual Summerfest kicked off Wednesday with a welcoming ceremony in city hall and a street dance on Main.

Mayor Randy Lewis welcomed the performers and exchanged gifts and thanks. The dancers and musicianss pay their own way, according to Josh Blackwelder, Summerfest coordinator, and often have major challenges in getting visas from their countries and ours.

At the street dance, performers from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Lithuania and Taiwan performed for an enthusiastic crowd and then invited their audience to learn a few steps.

Summerfest continues Thursday, Aug. 7 through Saturday, Aug. 9 at Bountiful Park, 200 W. 400 North.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies and the parade of nations begins at 6 p.m., and national and international performers start at 6:45 p.m.

Festivities run from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Performances will take place on two stages. A variety of food will be available on site, as well as arts and crafts from 22 vendors.
