MARIN COUNTY, Calif. - Officials in California have confirmed that actor and comedian Robin Williams has been found dead in his home.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office says Williams died of an apparent suicide by asphyxiation.

The 63-year-old actor was last seen alive on Sunday, and was found unconscious Monday morning.

A release from Marin County officials said, "At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted."

Williams gained stardom as "Mork" in the popular ABC sit-com "Mork and Mindy" in the early 1980s.

He went on to star in several films, and won a best supporting actor Academy Award for his role in "Good Will Hunting" in 1997.

He also drew acclaim for his voice work in animated features, including "Genie" in Disney's "Aladdin."

He was married three times and three children.
