WOODS CROSS – After dropping its region opener to Clearfield last Tuesday, the Woods Cross girls’ soccer team bounced back Thursday by mercy-ruling the Kearns Cougars 10-0.

The Bountiful Braves lost a close game to Highland in region play as well.

Viewmont, in a rematch of the 5A state title game from last season, lost to Brighton 2-0. Davis won its game over Westlake 8-0.

Wildcats mercy-rule Cougars, 10-0

Kennedy Yost of Woods Cross kicked in four goals against the Kearns Cougars in Region 6 play last Thursday.

Alyssa Mann added two goals and the Wildcats were able to mercy-rule the Cougars 10-0.

Woods Cross led 7-0 after the first half and knocked in three more goals before the 50th minute to end the game early.

Eden Jacobsen, Haley Stafford, Kyra Fawcett and Sara Noel each netted a goal as well.

McKenzie Cable earned a shutout at the net.

Lady Braves drop tough match to Rams, 3-2

Bountiful and Highland were dead-locked at 1-1 after the first half of last Thursday’s girls’ soccer match.

But a pair of goals by Highland in the second half was enough to lift the Rams past the Braves 3-2 in Region 6 play.

Abby Clark and Amy Chidester each netted a goal for Bountiful. Emma Thornton scored two goals to lead the Rams.

Viewmont blanked again by Brighton, 2-0

In a rematch of the state 5A title game between Viewmont and Brighton, the final result still showed the Bengals as the better team.

Goals by Rachel Powley and Sarah Fankhauser in the second half gave the Bengals the 2-0 win over the Vikings.

The shutout was Brighton’s first of the year; it also marked the first time Viewmont was held scoreless this season.

The last time Viewmont was shutout in the regular season was against Fremont on Sept. 5, a 1-0 loss.

Davis mercy rules Westlake, 8-0

In its final game before Region 1 play, Davis beat up Westlake 8-0 behind two goals each from Ireland Dunn and Regyn Youngberg.

Davis scored five goals in the first half and finished the game with three more in the second half to mercy-rule the Thunder.

Hunter Laws, Megan Rowe, Mikayla Colohan and Olivia Wade also scored a goal each.
