ANTELOPE ISLAND — The balloons have been deflated.
The annual Balloon/Kite Stampede Festival that has been held on Antelope Island on Labor Day weekend is no more. The festival had been organized by the Davis Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, but since that organization was closed earlier this year, the event has been cancelled.
Davis County Commissioners have launched a new marketing campaign focused on promoting tourism in the place of the CVB. There are no plans at this point to revive the festival in the future.
The festival, which was designed to promote tourism on Antelope Island, was generally held the last weekend in August. Though the event originally focused only on hot air balloons, kites were added several years ago.
Before the festival, balloonists traveled to local elementary schools for demonstrations and to teach students how hot air balloons work.
