LAYTON – Northridge High School’s Round Table Rumble ended with the host team winning after beating Davis in the final match of the weekend-long tournament.
Davis, that lost both of its matches during the tournament to Northridge, finished second. Region 1 rival Fremont placed third, followed by Region 6 Bountiful and Clearfield each placing in the top five.
The Knights finished 6-1 in pool play, losing only to Fremont in three games, and entered the winner’s bracket of the tournament facing off against Bountiful, which finished 4-4 overall.
Northridge beat Bountiful in three games (25-14, 23-25, 15-12) to set up the championship match with Davis, which beat Fremont in a two-game sweep.
The championship match was even after two games and it took an extra point to decide the overall winner. Northridge won the third game 16-14 to claim its tournament.
Bountiful, that finished fourth overall, beat fellow region competitor Clearfield as well as Hunter, Viewmont and Box Elder to move into the championship bracket.
Viewmont finished 3-5 in pool play, defeating Hunter and Clearfield in pool play, then beating Hunter again in the consolation matches.
Matches this week
Davis and Bountiful will travel to Lone Peak High School to take part in another tournament, the Lone Peak/Lehi tournament, taking place this Friday and Saturday.
Viewmont will travel to Clearfield High School to take part in the Falcon’s tournament the same weekend.
Woods Cross will open its season against Cyprus High School at home on Thursday, Sept. 11, before hosting its own Clawbuster Tournament next weekend.
