FARMINGTON—Once you’ve made the decision to splurge on an ice cream cookie at Baked Bear, you’ve got a few more decisions to make.

You’ve got to decide between about a dozen different kinds of cookies, a dozen flavors of ice cream and another dozen toppings.

But it’s hard to go wrong at the new dessert spot opening in Station Park.

Hundreds waited in line for the grand opening celebration on Friday, Oct. 21, where the first 500 were treated to a free sandwich.

The line started forming at 9 a.m. and wound past neighboring businesses by the time of the 5 p.m. opening. Live music and a balloon artist entertained those in line as they awaited their turn at the counter.

T-shirts and a raffle drawing for a catered event were also offered to those at the front of the line.

Employees greeted customers with a smile and helped them with their decisions – a cookie on top, brownie on the bottom was OK. They could even opt to have the cookie heated without melting the ice cream, according to Rich Day, co-owner of the franchise, an option they call “hot pressed.”

Baked Bear started in California, he said, and will soon have a second Utah store in Lehi. There are now eight open in California, plus two in Arizona and two in Nevada.

The price for a cookie sandwich is $3.95, and the brownie or donut options cost $4.95. Choosing a cookie on top and brownie below costs $4.50.

It is also possible to buy cookies – which are made fresh daily – for $1 each or the ice cream separately for $3 a scoop.

Cookie options include Snickerdoodles, M&Ms, chocolate chip or gluten-free chocolate chip, oatmeal cinnamon and more. Ice cream flavors include mint chip, rocky road, salted caramel fudge, butter pecan, to name a few. Topping options range from hot caramel and hot fudge to whipped cream and heath bar bits.

Baked Bear is situated in Station Park just east of the University of Utah’s Farmington Health Center, at 256 N. University Drive.
