OREM--This past weekend the high school drill state finals took place at Utah Valley University, and our local ladies killed it. And the Bountiful High Mandonelles came home with something they’re used to bringing back—a state championship trophy.
Both Bountiful High and Viewmont High made it to the finals. These two teams provided major support for each other. Viewmont High walked onto the dance floor as the BHS girls stood up, raising their applause as well as the BHS fan crowd. Viewmont had solid routines, but did not place in the extremely tight 5A competition.
The 4A competition was also extreme, stressing out a majority of the audience. Bountiful High’s Mandonelles are known for winning state many years in a row, but last year took an unexpected turn. Bountiful returned home without the state title. The girls were devastated after the hard work and many hours put into their routines. This wasn't the end for them; instead of giving up they fought harder.
The quote, “We Will Rise,” spread throughout the team. They shared this with the school with complete confidence that they would rise again. That is exactly what they did.
The Mandonelles swept the dance floor Saturday night, taking home the state title. They placed first in Military and Kick, and second in Dance, earning the overall title. Hillcrest was second and Maple Mountain third. These girls performed tremendously while perfecting each move. The crowd’s mood instantly changed as chills climbed up everybody’s spines just watching such passion and devotion.
Coach Jan Whittaker is not only an amazing coach to these Mandonelles, but a great example and friend as well. Without such a great coach, they wouldn't be where they are today.
Congratulations to the Mandonelles on such a fabulous win.
