Viewmont earned its 5A championship game with wins over Bingham and Sky View last Wednesday and Friday.

Against Bingham, the Vikes used a solid defensive effort and avoided foul trouble to take a 54-37 victory. It avenged a loss to the Miners in preseason. Viewmont led 26-19 at halftime.

Staples led all scorers with 19 points and also had five steals. Carr scored 13 and had 10 rebounds.

On Friday, Sky View and Viewmont had so much fun that they battled into overtime. Viemmont took a 44-42 lead with 2:20 left in regulation on a basket by Carr. Sky View countered with a three-point play from Kylie Hale, then stretched it to 46-44 with 1:18 left. Staples countered with a one-hander to knot things at 46-all in the final minute. Both teams missed shots as the quarter expired.

In overtime, Staples hit a corkscrew jumper with 1:21 left to give Viewmont a 51-48 lead. Sky View then began to foul, and Staples made six free throws down the stretch to push the Vikes into the finals.

She scored 21, Carr added 9 and Sorenson 6, but it was Sorenson who came up with key rebounds to hold off a Sky View charge.
