CENTERVILLE—Several mail thefts have occurred in Centerville recently and police are warning residents to be aware so that they do not become victims.

The police offer these suggestions:

• Try and retrieve your mail as soon as possible after it has been delivered to your home or business mailbox.

• When mailing a check or payment, if at all possible, take it directly to the post office and put it in the drop box inside. The next best option is to put it in the drop-off box on post office property.

• If you are a business, you can make a request with the post office to not have your mail delivered on Saturdays. This eliminates having mail sit in the box over the weekend.

• Contact the post office and place a hold on your mail while you are on vacation.

According to the Centerville Police Department’s Facebook page, packages are still being stolen from the front porches of homes so watch out for your neighbors’ homes as well as your own. If you see a package being delivered and witness any suspicious activity, don’t be afraid to call police. For more information contact the department at 801-292-8441.
