FARMINGTON—It’s still called High School No. 10, but at least it has a principal. The Davis School District recently announced that Richard Swanson will head the new high school that is under construction off of Glovers Lane in Farmington.

Swanson, who is currently principal at Davis High School, will officially start his duties July 1. The school will not open until August 2018, but Swanson has plenty to do before then, such as leading out in hiring faculty and staff, ordering and receiving all the equipment and coordinating the schedules and curriculum for the new school, according to a release.

“Of course, I’ll have a lot of people helping me do this,” said Swanson in the statement. “This is not a job that one person can even conceptualize, let alone pull off.”

Swanson served as principal of Sunset Junior High for four years prior to leading Davis High. He was also an assistant principal at Clearfield High and Fairfield Junior High for three years each and an administrative intern for a year at Clearfield High.

He taught health, health science and technology and advanced athletic conditioning for six years at Clearfield High before becoming an administrator, the release said. He has also been a head girls basketball coach, head girls soccer coach, head track coach, assistant girls basketball coach and assistant track coach.

Swanson started his career teaching health and Spanish at Bountiful Junior High 20 years ago.

“Will I miss Davis High?” Swanson said. “No doubt. My last three years there have been fantastic. The community has been great, and the students have been outstanding. But not many people get to open a new school, and the opportunity to do that is something I couldn’t pass up.”
