THE CURRENT QUEEN and attendants will pass on the crown this Saturday at Cottonwood High School.
SALT LAKE CITY — Those who are part of the “Age of Elegance” are competing for the Ms. Utah Senior America Pageant this week.

Ten women are participating in this year’s pageant on Saturday, June 20 at Cottonwood High School. The pageant celebrates values, accomplishments and service. This year’s theme focused on the “Philosophy of Life.”

“Why not step out of your ‘comfort zone’ and share your example and service with others?” said last year’s queen Barbara Newman.

This year’s contestants are Lenora Ford-Brown (North Salt Lake City), Colleen Hatfield (Springville), Joyce Bae (Orem), Amy Jones (Bountiful), Margo York-Cravey (LaVerkin), Lorien Lundgreen (South Jordan), Jerri Warnick (Pleasant Grove), Connie Heyrend-Teeter (Salt Lake City), Barbara Grice (Salt Lake City) and Charlotte Sheffield (Salt Lake City).

Before the pageant begins, a mini expo and silent auction will be held. Sponsors and advertisers will display products and services that will be up for bid for anyone attending the pageant. The expo will begin at 5:30 and carry on until 7 p.m. Then, the pageant itself begins at 7 p.m.

Each contestant will give a memorized speech presented in a formal gown. The women will also participate in a five-minute interview with judges, after which they become members of Cameo Club. In the club, the women can focus on service to other seniors.

“Come join in the fun for young and not-so-young as we celebrate senior vitality and the power of one,” said Newman.

Utah Senior America puts on the pageant with the help of other sponsors.

The program is a 501(c)(3) organization that serves seniors in Utah. For more information about the organization or the pageant itself, visit www.UtahSeniorAmerica.org.

Cottonwood High School is located at 5717 S. 1300 E. in Salt Lake City. Tickets at the door are, come with a donation.
