What’s up with political signs?

Editor:

I live in the same neighborhood as Cari Horton (letter to the editor Thursday, Oct. 2, ’08) who lost two political campaign signs recently.

As one who lost more more than 100 political signs in a Senatorial race some years ago I can share her feelings of disappointment and betrayal.

The important question to be answered is, “Why would Republicans steal Bob Bennett signs?”

A few years ago, I was outside my house getting ready to head to the store, when I noticed a strange vehicle in the neighborhood following a young man from house to house. When I walked to the end of my driveway, I discovered that the young man was going around taking political signs down out of peoples yard, and tossing them back to his friends in the car. I followed the car and copied down the license plate number and reported the theft to the police. When they got back to me later that evening, they said that the people stealing the signs were all high school seniors, under the age of 17, and they would not be getting into any trouble for what they were doing. Apparently, one of the boys (who was driving the car) had heard his mother say she wished she could take all the signs supporting the person she wasn't voting for, and have them destroyed so this party didn't win. Her son took it to heart and had his friends help him steal the signs. Because he was underage, the police decided not to press the issue.

my guess would be someone young and immature...or old and immature? Either way, I agree it needs to stop.
