The yard sale lasted two days, Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, the fund-raiser lasted from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The yard sales were held at the old Foods, etc. store in the Clearfield Towne Square at 269 E. 200 S. in Clearfield.
“Habitat for Humanity sometimes receives donations that cannot be used in the homes we build so we turn around and sell those items to help raise money that can be used to buy supplies we are in need of,” said Habitat for Humanity’s vice president, Brook Lyons.
Habitat for Humanity announced that the yard sales were very popular and they plan to do at least one more this year. The next one will be held Friday, Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The two-home rehabilitation project currently under way in Ogden, which benefited from the first fund-raiser, is nearly half-way complete. The home will likely get a family next month and construction on the next house is just starting. Work parties should begin on this house within the next month or two. Funds from the fund-raising yard sales go directly to these projects.
Habitat for Humanity still needs additional sale items for the next fund-raiser. Leftover materials, used cabinets and furniture and household items can be sold at the yard sale. However, no clothing will be accepted.
Volunteers are still needed for the sale and the donation spot. Habitat has offered to pick up items. If you need items picked up, call Howard at 710-4342 or call the office at 475-9821.
Donations are tax deductible and receipts will be provided upon request.
Habitat for Humanity helps low-income families build and buy their own homes. Partner families must meet certain income requirements and must be willing to perform “sweat equity” to help build their own homes and/or the homes of others.
Partner families must also be willing to participate in workshops designed to help them become more successful homeowners.
Once the homes are completed, they are sold to the partner families at a no-profit price, with a no-interest loan and with affordable monthly payments.
