But the city’s landscape continues to change with new construction, especially of the commercial variety.
For example, in addition to a new Hilton-brand extended stay hotel recently announced to be built across from the Conference Center, a single-story medical complex will be built on an adjacent site, said Layton City Long-range Planner Peter Matson.
In addition, Legacy Village, a multi-faceted assisted living center is due to start construction, soon, just north of the Post Office on north Fairfield Road, he said. Beyond that, road construction continues to extend Fairfield Road as a part of the East Gate business park development, he said.
The general contractor of the first 80-acre section planned for development, JL Properties, of Alaska, is working with a couple of businesses. So far it has presented a preliminary site plan for the site.
In addition, announcement of a construction start for the south Layton Interchange could be providing stimulus for projects that have been “in the wings,” seemingly waiting for some interchange activity.
Matson said owners of the Fort Lane Shopping Center property on south Fort Lane were due to meet with city planning officials late this week.
Several plans have been discussed for that once-vibrant center, including a mini-Gateway feel, including residential, office and commercial space, said Community & Economic Development director Bill Wright.
Layton developer and legislator Kevin Garn is a key part of that project, and has emphasized a desire to work closely with city officials to create a quality project for his hometown.
