Farmington Community Arts is offering up that and more with their fall dinner theater “A Little Murder,” set to run Oct. 22-25 at 7 p.m. at the Community Arts Center (120 S. Main). A murder mystery run through a chaotic British comedy, “A Little Murder” offers a slightly lighter alternative for those looking for some Halloween fun.
“It’s a great alternative to spook alleys,” said Karyn Tucker, the play’s director. “It’s a fun way to enjoy the season.”
The play tells the story of Edgar Hollister, a boring man who marries gold-digger Mavis Templeton. Mavis, who thinks Edgar is rich, apparently tries to bump him off after the wedding in order to become a wealthy widow.
As the play progresses, though, it’s impossible to be certain whether Mavis really did make the attempt, whether Edgar is dead at all, and how much of what’s going on onstage is even really happening.
“It’s one of those plays where the plot holes are so huge you could drive two mack trucks through them, but it’s just so silly that the cast ends up laughing half the time,” said Tucker. “I tell them no, you can’t laugh. You have to be saying your lines.”
The play also marks Farmington’s first-ever workshop performance, which is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 21. During the dinner-free performance, drama teachers from around the county will be invited to bring their students, and afterward there will be a question-and-answer session with the cast.
Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. They can be purchased either by calling Farmington Parks and Recreation at 451-0953 or by going online to www.farmingon.utah.g-ov. Those looking for updates on the dinner menu can also check the website.
