BOUNTIFUL — People looking for fitness will be competing with emergency preparedness exhibits and programs this Saturday.

That’s because the Bountiful Emergency Preparedness Fair will be held that day at the South Davis Recreation Center, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

“Family Preparedness is Community Preparedness” is this year’s fair theme. The theme was chosen because many people within the community are experiencing some kind of financial emergency due to the current economic recession, a press release said.

Due to limited space, classes will be held in the party room, presented by AAA Fair Credit Counseling Foundation, which provides many services to Davis County residents.

The schedule is: 10:15 a.m.-10:45 a.m., Identity theft; 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Budgeting & Debt Management Techniques; 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Credit Reports and Credit Scoring; 12:30 p.m.-1 p.m., Budgeting & Debt Management Techniques; 1:15 p.m.-1:45 p.m., Credit Reports & Credit Scoring.

The fair will include a variety of activities and information booths geared to helping local residents be more prepared in times of emergency.

Topics will range from budgeting and debt management within today’s economic crisis to basic first aid skills that can be used in case of a home emergency.

In addition, information about CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Teams) will also be available. Such teams are encouraged to be set up in neighborhoods and beyond to respond to local and larger emergencies/disasters.

“In these uncertain times, it is good to be prepared for what may lie ahead,” said Bountiful Mayor Joe Johnson. “The fair will have ideas and products available to help you achieve a sense of security for you and your family. I would encourage you to take a little time this Saturday to visit the fair.”

The annual fair has been sponsored by the Bountiful Community Service Council for many years. Richard Watson is the current chair.

Other event sponsors include South Davis Metro Fire Agency, Bountiful and Centerville Police Departments, Bountiful City Light and Power, as well as a variety of businesses, including Walmart, Costco, ServPro of Bountiful and Tomorrow’s Harvest.
