DAVIS COUNTY — The search for a new Davis Chamber of Commerce President is still ongoing.
However, according to Brad Wilson, the chamber chair, the search has gone very well.
“We’ve actually been overwhelmed,” he said. “When we started I think there were roughly 100 applicants; and those were just the one’s we thought were worthy of interviews.”
Wilson said there was a “search committee” created to review the applications and offer interviews.
The committee is comprised of a handful of chamber board members and have been interviewing candidates since former chamber president John Pitt’s final day on Aug. 7.
“Based purely on a guess, I think they’ve narrowed the candidates down to about a dozen or so,” said Wilson.
None of the names were released to the Clipper.
Pitt served as the chamber president for almost three years. Most of those years came during the current economic crisis, yet Pitt forged onward and helped the chamber continue its growth in his short tenure.
“I’ve been gratified by the overwhelmingly positive response from the chamber’s core membership,” said Pitt before his last day. “They have expressed gratitude for the many and varied networking opportunities the chamber has provided them, particularly in these economic times when the ability to make solid connections with potential customers and vendors is so valuable.”
Pitt is now working as the Director of Project Development for the Bonneville Companies, which includes Bonneville Builders and Bonneville Development Group.
As for who is going to be the new president, Wilson is hopeful that the committee will have made its decision by Labor Day, though he emphasized it’s a “hopeful date.”
“I believe the plan is to offer whomever it is the job by then,” he said. “I’m not certain, though.
“I know that we’ve been really excited by the amount of interest that has been pouring in about this position. It really shows how much people care about Davis County.”
