Warm start to autumn leaves mosquitoes biting

LAYTON (AP) ó Mosquitoes are lingering into fall because of warm days, with their eggs still hatching. ##M:MORE##

That means the mosquitoes are still biting ó and health officials say that's a problem because two of the species known to carry West Nile would normally stop biting at this time of year.

Davis County Mosquito Abatement manager Gary Hatch says daytime highs in the 80s have mosquitoes flourishing.

Hatch says mosquitoes wonít cool off until the temperature does. Weather forecasts call for highs in the 80s for the rest of the week.

National Weather Service meteorologist Colby Newman says the first freeze of the season in northern Utah usually occurs around Oct. 15.
