ìOur whole defensive line was great today,î Hutchings said. ìWe knew this would be a battle and it was and it was great. These are the games that are most fun to be part of.î
With the game tied in the second overtime, a corner kick in front of the Weber goal led to a scrum. Aleesha Flandro crossed the ball in front of the goal and Erica Randall controlled the ball.
Randall got the ball to Caitlin ìCookieî Cook who put the shot in the back of the net and sent the Warriors back to Ogden.
ìI would have been mad if I hadnít made that goal,î Cook said. ìI had to make that shot.î
Cook credited Viking coach Eric Landon for an off-field assist on the score.
ìCoach (Landon) has been really getting after me about not crossing my body on my kicks and to just fire off straight away,î Cook said. ìThat is exactly how I made this shot. I did what heís been after me about and it worked so I hope heís happy.î
Cook, who has been one of the teamís catalysts during the season, put the win in perspective.
ìThis was huge for us because we had to win to keep our chance at the Region championship alive,î Cook said. ìThis win kept us in the hunt.î
Davis is in first place with the Dartsí only loss to Viewmont. The re-match is looming.
Landon was happy to see that his team was able to find a new way to win.
ìWe really had to grind out this win,î Landon said. ìIt was a rough game. Sometimes you have to just figure out how to win the game. We did that today.î
Hutchings finished the game serving up a shutout, her fourth such game this season.
The Vikings will take the road today against the Silver Wolves of Fremont, who loom in third place right behind Viewmont and Davis.
