The Bountiful/Davis Art Center (BDAC) is hoping to encourage this philosophy with the ribbon cutting for their Jean Madsen Childrenís Center, scheduled for Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. (just before the BDACís monthly ìFamily Encounters of the Art Kindî activity). The childrenís center will feature monthly art projects that correspond to the current BDAC art exhibit. ìThe Jean Madsen Childrenís Art Center will enhance our education program and give families additional opportunities to learn about art,î said BDAC Director Emma Dugal. ìIt helps make BDAC more accessible to a greater number of children, adults, and families.î ##M:MORE##
Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend the ribbon cutting, which will be held in BDACís north gallery. Septemberís Family Encounters of the Art Kind, which will feature a stamped printmaking project inspired by Andy Warhol, will immediately follow.
ìWe decided to hold it at the same time as Family Encounters because thatís the audience weíre going for,î said BDAC Education Coordinator Trixee Buckingham.
The inaugural childrenís center project, which will be connected to BDACís Contemporary Illustratorís Exhibit opening on Sept. 12, features a blank book that children can illustrate and write corresponding stories in. The books will be available at the front desk, likely for a small fee, and adult supervision will be required.
Later childrenís center projects, which are currently being designed by Buckingham, will be based on future BDAC exhibits and may be influenced by artists ranging from Steve Sheffield to Carol Evans.
The Jean Madsen Childrenís center was made possible due to the efforts of Jean Madsen, the BDAC board vice-chair, and the supplies and labor donated by Big D construction.
