DAVIS COUNTY ó Consumers of Davis County and the rest of the state are paying a lot more for gas than they expect.

According to AAAís ìFuel Gauge Reportî Utah has the third highest average for regular gasoline price in the nation, not including taxes. The average price excluding tax is $3.79 a gallon.

On a national level, the two other states that rate higher on average excluding taxes arenít even connected to the U.S. ó Alaska and Hawaii. The average price in the U.S. is $3.68 a gallon.

Utahís gas tax is 42.9 cents a gallon, making the average price per gallon of gas around the $4.21 mark for regular unleaded gas along Davis County.

AAAís latest news release showed Utah ranked in the top five in the average price of gas (including tax) alone, with only California, Oregon, Col-orado and Montana ahead of the Beehive state.

ìThatís a historic thing,î said Rolayne Fairclough, AAA spokesperson.

ìBut itís not surprising to see Utah ranked among the highest in the nation at the moment.î
