I read the endorsement letter for Richard Ellis in the Clipper on Tuesday, June 10, by Rep. Sheryl Allen, telling us why we should vote for him. So, I would like to tell readers why I will vote for Ron Mortensen for Utah Senate.##M:MORE##

Ron is fighting for you and your children. Maybe you didnít realize there was a fight. Maybe you are sitting back comfortably in your life not really thinking there is anything to fight about. But, every day things are happening and decisions are being made that affect us now and in the future. We stand to lose that comfort if we do not do something.

One issue Ron is fighting against is identity theft. I see identity theft and fraud every single day where I work at a bank. Many attempts are stopped before anything happens, but I feel so sad when peopleís bank accounts are drained or loans and credit cards are taken out without their knowing it.

Sometimes people will say to me that their identity was stolen several years ago, and they still have to continually check on it. It takes up so much of their time and causes a lot of stress and worry. This theft can happen in many different ways, but one significant way is through theft of Social Security numbers by illegal immigrants to use for employment and credit.

Many of these numbers belong to children or babies. They can end up with a poor credit history before they are even old enough to sign a contract. Ron is working on legislation to require employers to verify Social Security numbers.
