DAVIS COUNTY — A book may be the easiest way to take a vacation these days, but you do have to watch out for people trying to kill you.

Local author Cliff Kice will be celebrating the release of his book, “Saltwater in the Bluegrass,” at a book signing and kickoff event to be held Nov. 8 from 5-9 p.m. at the Davis Conference Center. The book follows the adventures of Florida detective J.C. Stringer as he heads to Louisville, Ky. during the annual derby.

The real reason he’s there, though, is to help his cousin, Kristina. She’s in trouble after her new husband, a son of one of the most prominent families in Louisville, dies in a mining accident that is immediately followed by an attempt on Kristina’s own life. Now she’s on the run, and it’s up to Stringer to untangle the mystery before his cousin breathes her last breath.

Kice, who was born in Louisville, is currently living in Farmington with his wife, Brenda. He said he first fell in love with books when his mother marched him into the local library at the age of six to get his first library card.

This June, Kice will release his next book, “Island of the Prosecution.” For more information, please call 939-4500.
