FARMINGTON — The Davis School District Board of Education will be meeting at 3 p.m. today for a workshop to discuss the junior high boundary study and hear an update from the district equity committee. The board will meet again at 5:30 p.m. to honor an employee and discuss several construction bids. At 6 p.m. the board will hold a public hearing for the elementary boundary study and hear the boundary recommendations.

Second-grade essays

FARMINGTON — Second-grade students at Knowlton Elementary are learning about the 2008 presidential election and are writing essays like “If I could tell the President what he should do, I would say...” Students will participate in a mock election and have their pictures taken with a life-sized cut out of the President-elect today. Students vote for president

BOUNTIFUL — Students at Muir Elementary will be participating in the election process and voting for the new president today. Contact teacher Elizabeth Sewak at 402-1550 for more information.

Reading to elect a mascot

CENTERVILLE — Reading Elementary first-graders are electing a mascot. Such is the activity teachers are using to bring the idea of elections closer to the understanding of a first-grader. Each class chose an animal they would like to have as the first-grade mascot, and each class will have a representative speak to the rest of the first-graders today about why their candidate is best. Classes have also created their own campaign posters as a way to influence their fellow classmates. Students will then vote for their favorite candidate. Brown visits Lakeview Elem.

WEST POINT — Local artist Lonna Brown will be at Lakeview Elementary painting a mural everyday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Students will be observing her work as part of the school’s goal to promote art. Contact teacher Mary Hansen at 402-2900 for more information.

Students head to conference

PROVO — East Layton Elementary student council is traveling to BYU for a leadership conference Wednesday. They earned the money to pay for the trip by recycling paper at the school. Contact Principal Beth Johnston or teacher Heidi Frischknecht at 402-3250 for more information.

Syracuse hosts future fair

SYRACUSE — Syracuse High School will be hosting a planning for the future fair from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday for district junior high and high school students with mild/moderate and severe disabilities and their families. Contact the school at 402-7900 for more information.

Students to visit aquarium

SALT LAKE CITY — Muir Elementary first-grade students will be going to the aquarium to learn about the different kinds of ocean animal life this Wednesday. Contact teacher Stacy Hansen at 402-1550 for more information.
