BOUNTIFUL — Artistic creativity can mean far more than just paint on a canvas.

The Bountiful/Davis Art Center has an entire brace of fall classes and workshops scheduled to begin Sept. 19, open to children, teens and adults and exploring subjects ranging from watercolor and yoga to illuminated journals and sculpture.

One class that carried over from the summer session is yoga, with different variations available for preschoolers, children and adults. Though not usually grouped with more traditional art offerings, BDAC feels that the yoga classes simply offer a way to reduce stress, get in touch with your body, and access the right side of your brain.

“We were looking to introduce some movement into the art,” said BDAC Education Program Coordinator Trixee Buckingham. “It seemed like a good way to tap into the creative energies.”

For those looking to get more art into their life in a less physical way, the art center is also offering an illuminated journal class for the first time this fall. Taught by artist Michal Onyon, the class shows students how to document the important moments of their lives using artistic mediums such as collages and sketching as well as text. Examples of several different types of journals will be explored, including travel, record-keeping, history, and illustrative.

“Artists have been doing it for centuries, but that doesn’t mean you have to be an artist to do it,” said Buckingham. “It’s just a chance for people to explore ways to make their journals a little more exciting.”

Other classes available as part of BDAC’s fall schedule includes youth and adult bookmaking classes taught by Laurie Dyer, youth and adult sculpture classes taught by Mike Call, landscape oil painting taught by Diane Turner, an adult class that explores different color media taught by Sarah Bigelow, a parent and child pottery workshop taught by Tar Robertson, and several others.

For more information or to register for any of BDAC’s classes, please call the art center at 292-0367. More information about prices and individual classes can also be found online at www.bdac.org.
