“We played pretty good,” said Lady Viking coach Eric Landon. “We got a lot of looks and took advantage of most of them.”
Viewmont started the first half mostly in Roy’s side of the field, controlling the ball for most of the half while taking several shots on goal. With 26 minutes to play, Rachel Brog scored the first goal thanks to a well placed pass by Ali Forsberg.
The Lady Vikings saw several other opportunities slip by them before scoring again. On two occasions they had shots either hit the cross bar or miss outside the net, while Roy’s goalkeeper had a few good saves of her own.
Viewmont took a two goal lead with less than two minutes to play when Mykol Morrell found the back of the net.
“We executed pretty well,” said Landon. “We wanted to set a tone from the beginning and we did that in the first half.”
In the second half, the Vikings pulled away for good. Within the first three minutes, Flandro scored the first of her two goals against Roy. Three minutes later Mattison Beckman scored the fourth goal, and the rout was on.
Within the next 15 minutes of the second half Rachel Foster and Flandro each scored again, while Roy’s goalkeeper was having fits keeping Viewmont’s offense in check. Kennedy Townsend made the final goal for Viewmont with 10 minutes to play.
“Roy is new to this region, so you can’t fault them for not playing against opponents they’re used to,” said Landon. “What we wanted to do was go out there and play prepared and position ourselves well for the playoffs.”
As of print time, Viewmont was 8-2-3 and sitting in fourth place in Region 1. They are one point behind Layton and four points behind Fremont for third and second respectively.
