Fire houses set to open doors for residents

DAVIS COUNTY — A junior firefighter challenge is among activities planned by South Davis Metro Fire for next week’s Fire Prevention Week.

That agency and many others in the county will be opening their doors to the public for the yearly week of education and fire prevention-related activities.

South Davis Metro Fire open houses will all be held 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Station 81, 255 S. 100 W., Bountiful; Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Station 82, 701 East Eaglewood Drive, North Salt Lake; Thursday, Oct. 8, Station 85, 836 W. 1100 North, North Salt Lake.

There will be tours and explanations of services provided, fire safety activities, balloons, hand outs and a fire safety drawing. In addition, firefighters will demonstrate smoke detectors, proper fire extinguisher use, and a junior firefighter combat challenge. Fire apparatus will be on display as well as the fire safety trailer to provide “hands-on” for kids.

Activities are also planned at several other Davis County fire agencies.

Due to remodeling, Farmington will hold its activity Oct. 21, with more information to be provided closer to that date. Kaysville Fire, which also serves Fruit Heights, will hold an open house from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the station, 175 S. Main. There will be tours, a visit by a safety helicopter between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., equipment to see, hand outs, and more.

Syracuse will hold tours of its station upon request that week. Call 801-615-9614 to schedule a tour.

The North Davis Fire District, which serves Clearfield and West Point, will hold two open houses, both 6 to 8 p.m. Clearfield will be Wednesday, Oct. 7, and West Point Thursday, Oct. 8.

Layton kicked off area observances, was due to hold a giant celebration with more than 25 exhibits on Sept. 30.

Layton City and the Fire Department postponed the Annual City Fire Open House and Safety Fair due to cold and wet weather on September 30th. The new date for this huge event is October 14th (Wednesday) from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Could you please make a correction in your next issue.
