Following last week’s 38-6 drubbing of Stansbury, Woods Cross coach Freddie Fernandes likes where his team stands.
“We played pretty good tonight,” Fernandes said. “We scored in a lot of different ways and held them to just six points.”
“I think that says a lot of positive things about where we are right now.”
Woods Cross jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead as Parker Rose scored on a 67 yard run.
Anthony Kendrick’s block kick led to the second score of the night and then Rose picked up the third score on a one yard dive.
Kicker Steven Sperry made good on all of his PAT attempts.
In the third quarter Woods Cross exploded for 17 points with Tyler Parker hooking up with Mark Evans on a 28 yard pass play.
Then Jordan O’Toole scooped up a Stansbury fumble and rumbled for a 65 yard touchdown.
Sperry, who had connected on both second half PATs, then nailed a 36 yard field goal.
Tyler Parson lit up the night connecting on four of eight passes for 155 yards and a touchdown, while Rose was the leader on the ground with 69 yards and a score on six rushes.
Rose also had 87 yards of receiving and a score for a night of 155 yards of total offense with two scores. On defense, Rose and Gates Hunsaker each had seven tackles.
Evans had two sacks on the Stansbury quarterback. Stansbury finally got on the board late in the game and the Cats improved to 5-2 on the year (3-1 in Region 6) with two games to play.
“I like where we are right now but we have to be careful with Tooele coming in for the last home game of the season this Friday,” Fernandes said. “Tooele has a great coaching staff and I am sure their kids will be ready to play. We’ve put ourselves in a position where we can still win the Region championship with two games to play.”
