NORTH SALT LAKE — Reading Horizons of North Salt Lake recently chose Project Read, based in Provo, as its featured site for donations.

For Project Read, that means Reading Horizons’ Lemons for Literacy program will help increase donations for the Provo organization. Project Read accepts students who are at least 16 years of age, speak English competently, but test at or below a seventh-grade reading level.

Lemons for Literacy is an online game in which players identify definitions of various words and terms. The game now helps Project Read because every time someone gets a correct answer, the game shows a lemon being squeezed into a pitcher. With every lemon squeezed, Reading Horizons’ donations increase.

Reading Horizons has been in North Salt Lake for 25 years, fighting illiteracy. The program is for readers from elementary, middle and high school as well as those wishing to improve in the workplace.

I read an article the other day about how literacy is a lot bigger problem than we even realize. Its great to see that people are working to solve this problem!
