DAVIS COUNTY — It's early in the basketball season for both boys and girls squads, but already some teams are showing change from their usual ways.

The Davis boys squad is off to a hot start after winning both games this week to move to 2-0.

On Tuesday, they defeated a tough Alta squad 59-52 thanks to Josh Van Weezep’s and Trevor Webb’s combined 26 points.  The combo, along with Kyle Smith’s 11 points helped the squad defeat Jordan 66-56.

The Lady Darts are off to an inauspicious 0-3 start after losing games to Bingham and Taylorsville last week.  Thus far the Lady Darts have yet to exceed 40 points in a contest and have two tough games against Syracuse (3-0) and Layton (2-1) this week, both on the road.

After an initial win against Northridge, the Bountiful Braves boys team have dropped two straight to Fremont and Bingham.  They’ll have to right the ship quickly, as they play four of their next five games away from home.

The Lady Braves bounced back from an early loss in winning their games last week.  Both their wins have been close and their defense held both opponents last week to less than 35 points.  Both their games this week will be on the road.

The Viewmont Vikings boys team took a hard loss in their only game last week, falling to Riverton 51-42 despite double digit points from both Blake Wilkinson and Coulsen Wright.  They’re still 1-1 early, but have three games this week with two of them on the road.

The Lady Vikings are on a new streak having won two straight games to improve to 2-1.

The Lady Vikes beat Granger by seven Tuesday, then turned right around and beat Hillcrest by double digits.  The duo of Leah Ellertson and Sam Sappenfield has helped lift the Vikings to a great start, averaging just over seven points a contest. They play five of their next six games on the road.

After defeating Roy Tuesday with a 66-35 drubbing, the Woods Cross boys squad took a hard fought overtime loss at the hands of Layton Friday.  Ryan Anderson, Austin Bankowski and Mark Evans have been a strong presence for the team early on, with each averaging more than 13 points a game.  Like Viewmont they’ll play three games this week, two of them on the road.

The Lady ‘Cats are taking care of business so far, moving to 3-0 after a pair of wins last week.  Xojian Harry and teammate Natalie Parsons have helped tremendously so far, averaging double digit scoring efforts.  And unlike the boys squad, two of their three games this week will be at home.
