SALT LAKE CITY — Susan Ross will spend no time in prison.

Instead, the woman who, with her husband, defrauded the Davis School District of almost $4 million will face three years probation and 3,000 hours of community service and pay a $10,000 fine for her guilty plea of money laundering.

The sentence came Monday in U.S. District Court.

As part of the sentence, Susan Ross will also pay the Davis School District $350,000 in restitution coming from assets she agreed to forfeit in addition to the $786,000 in cash, homes in Layton, South Weber and Mountain Green and two vehicles, the couple has already forfeited.

Amazing. Someone intentionally defrauds a school district, takes an incredible amount of money, and walks basically free except for some restitution. But if you walk into a store and steal money from the cashier, you will not doubt do some jail time. Talk about miscarriage of justice. Certainly not much of deterent for the next person who has a great idea to make off with funds.
