A Bountiful resident, he was a Bountiful City council member for seven years. Most recently, Pitt was president and CEO of the Davis Chamber of Commerce for 2 1/2 years until he stepped down last summer.
Pitt announced his plans in a letter to Republican delegates from the district, which covers the northern half of Bountiful and an eastern part of Woods Cross.
“I have considered running for this seat since 2006,” he said. “Current political trends, issues, and developments, however, make me feel now is the ideal time to enter this race.
“I look forward to an honorable and meaningful race and hope to be able to serve the people of District 19 in a new, yet effective, capacity,” Pitt said.
“I have a record of strong leadership for the residents and businesses of south Davis County and I would like to build on that,” he said.
Among Pitt’s other experience, he was media specialist for the U.S. Senate Republican Conference in Washington, D.C., for six years.
He currently serves in many volunteer capacities and is director of public development for Bonneville Builders.
The House seat for District 19 is currently held by Sheryl Allen of Bountiful.
