TOOELE — The trip to Tooele Friday night is one the Woods Cross Wildcats boys basketball team might rather forget.

Coming off a pair of big wins and climbing back into the thick of the Region 6 race, the Wildcats suffered a 65-49 loss at the hands of its Stansbury hosts.

“It was a weird game,” said Woods Cross coach Todd Street. “We came out flat and fell behind in the first quarter.

“We did better after that but things just didn’t click for whatever reason.”

Stansbury jumped out 18-12 in that first quarter. The second quarter saw the Wildcats outscoring Stansbury 13-7 to head into the halftime locker room tied at 25.

“I felt good about the second quarter but the second half just didn’t go the way we would have liked.”

Stansbury outscored Woods Cross 8-5 in the third and then went on a tear, outscoring Woods Cross 32-19 in the fourth quarter.

Austin Bankowski led Woods Cross with 21 points while Steven Sperry finished with 9 and Ryan Anderson had 8.
