The Darts, as they had in their semi-final game, had come out of the gate slowly and on Saturday against the Hawks trailed 13-2 after the first eight minutes of play.
Unfortunately for the Darts, the hole proved too much this time as Alta took the state title with a 46-32 win at Weber State University.
“I’m proud of this team,” said coach Jay Welk. “When we fell behind there was no panic. We re-grouped and went after Alta and it turned out to be quite a game.”
Davis chipped away and came to within four points midway through the third quarter and after stealing the inbound pass the Darts looked as if they were on the verge of completing the comeback.
A missed shot and an ensuing Alta shot swung the momentum back into the Hawks’ favor as they never looked back.
“We came out cold and a little off on the offensive side of the ball,” Welk said. “We missed some shots we normally would have made, but part of that also had to do with good defense by Alta.
“You have to give Alta credit. They came in and got the win and even when we came back on them they kept their composure.”
The Darts were led in by Trevor Webb’s 12 points, including two 3-pointers.
Josh Van Weezep chipped in five points to go along with his team-high eight rebounds.
Landon Horne had six points and three rebounds and Kyle Smith went for five points and four rebounds and two steals.
Tallon Burton finished the afternoon with three points and four boards.
“This has been a great year and I don’t think the fact that we came up short in the state final changes that. This has been a great team and we had a great year.”
The Darts finished tied with Fremont for the Region 1 championship and actually did beat Alta to tip off the season back in December.
