CENTERVILLE — Though their lips are sealed about the shows that will be performed there, the people set to move into the Davis Cultural Arts Center (DCAC) are willing to offer a sneak peek of the main theater.

Rodgers Memorial Theatre President Glenn McKay recently gave the Bountiful Rotary a glimpse into what will be the group’s new home starting in early 2011 (after the move, they’ll change their name to CenterPoint Legacy Theatre). A grand opening is still planned for late 2010, with fund-raising events scheduled until the first show opens in February of the following year.

“I won’t say what it is, but there will be flying,” said McKay, adding that current season ticket holders will be able pay that same price for 2011 season tickets.

The new 521-seat theater will be around double the size of the current one, with more comfortable chairs and the addition of a balcony seating area.

“The seating will be crescent-shaped, so there won’t be any bad angles,” he said. “The best seats, though, may end up being the front row of the balcony. There’s no one in front of you, but it’s still such an intimate theater that you’re not too far away from the stage.”

The DCAC will be sharing a parking lot with a nearby office building, which McKay hopes will ease some of the congestion issues faced by other theaters like Hale.

“The office building will be doing their thing during the day, and we’ll be doing our thing at night,” he said. “There will be a nice contra effect with the traffic.”

Rodgers recently kicked off a fund-raising campaign to help furnish the new theater, including personalized pavers (for $150) and seat sponsorships (for $1,000). For more information, call 801-750-6214.
