The old structure at the northwest corner of Main and Center Streets is being totally razed for a new 9,400-square-foot, two-story facility.
First formally announced to the Bountiful City Council earlier this year, there were concerns raised by two members that the design wouldn’t blend well with the historic nature of downtown.
Prescott Muir Architects reportedly made some modifications to the facility. Keller Construction is the general contractor.
The office will have five teller windows in its lobby and four remote drive-through teller windows. There will also be a drive-through ATM and walk-up night deposit box.
The design will incorporate the use of the historic vault doors from the previous office, which had stood for many decades, a statement said.
“I’m very appreciative they’re willing to build a new building, given the economy we have,” said Mayor Joe Johnson. “It’s not a building environment. Zions, like all banks, is struggling a bit.
“I think the Bountiful branch is one of the most successful Zions has.
“I think it’s definitely a help to our Main Street to have that kind of a building put in,” he said. “It needs to happen. It makes that corner nicer, going along with the historic tabernacle and fountain at the Post Office.”
In addition to the bank lobby, the building will include private banking and executive banking offices, Zions Direct investment advising, and have a large conference room to be available for community use.
“For Zions Bank, this new building demonstrates our commitment to serving the needs of the community,” says Northern Utah Region president Sherm Losee. “We’re thrilled to be expanding the location to better serve our longtime business and personal banking clients in Bountiful – as well as those new to the office.”
With the closure of Barnes Banking Company last December, Zions Bank has expanded its North Davis presence by adding Kaysville and Syracuse locations. Those are being housed in former Barnes Bank buildings temporarily being leased.
Grand opening celebrations are planned for June 2 in Syracuse and June 3 in Kaysville.
Zions Bank is arguably Utah’s oldest financial institution, founded in 1873.
