Kaysville Youth Citizen named

Micah Troy Johnson (pictured second from left) received an award for Youth Citizen of the Year from Kaysville City Council at their most recent meeting. Those presenting the award included (from left) Mayor Steve Hiatt, and council members Mark Johnson, Ally Isom, Jared Taylor and Gil Miller.  The award was presented to Johnson, who is an honor student at Davis High School involved in debate and Tae Kwon Do and is a youth judge on the Kaysville Youth Court, in conjunction with a proclamation read by the mayor designating May 2 - 8 as Youth Week.

Man arrested in Brigham for assault

BRIGHAM CITY — A man was found and arrested by police here, earlier this week, in connection with an alleged brutal assault and rape of a Clearfield woman. Quintell Grant, 37, was arrested without incident on Monday at what is reported to be his new girlfriend’s house.

Earlier in the day, Clearfield Police put out a notice asking the public’s help in locating a man who allegedly physically and sexually assaulted a former girlfriend at an apartment in Clearfield.

Clearfield Police Det. Kyle Jeffries said the victim was repeatedly beaten with a belt and fists.

Grant has been charged in 2nd District Court with first-degree felony rape, first-degree felony forcible sodomy and class B misdemeanor assault.

Pesticide disposal now for free

LAYTON — Unwanted pesticides can be disposed of free of charge from Saturday through June 14 at a facility, here.

That’s thanks to a program of the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food. Unwanted, left-over, old or burned pesticides will be accepted in Davis County at J & J Nursery/ Great Basin Turf Products at 1815 W. Gentile Street, Layton.

Conservancy sets cleanup for May 6

KAYSVILLE — Due to inclement weather, an Earth Day cleanup on Kay’s Creek has been re-scheduled for Thursday, May 6 at 10 a.m.

Any volunteers who are interested in helping are invited to the site, which is a closed-to-the-public portion of the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve. It is located near where 1750 West and Weaver Lane meet, here.

Several volunteers are needed for the project. Youth ages 12 and up are welcome to come help out, as long as they bring a parent. Lunch will be provided.

Organizers suggest volunteers dress for current weather conditions and bring boots suitable for mud, work gloves, waders if available, water, hat and sunscreen.

The booth shown belonged to fair participant Herbs for Health. The fair featured a variety of booths from vendors offering wellness related products.
