On Friday, Huntsman announced the appointment of Frost to replace retiring Judge Diane Wilkins. She now faces confirmation by the Utah State Senate. Her appointment will be reviewed by the senate’s Confirmation Committee which will interview her and conduct a public hearing before forwarding her name to the full senate, which has 60 days from the nomination to act on it.
In making the announcement, Huntsman expressed appreciation for her commitment to public service and gratitude for her acceptance of the nomination.
In a prepared statement, Huntsman said, “Janice demonstrates the kind of heart we need on the juvenile court bench. Her deep commitment to making positive differences in the lives of children will serve the community well.”
Frost currently serves as a South Salt Lake deputy city attorney, and she has previously worked as an assistant city prosecutor for Salt Lake City and an assistant attorney general for Utah, where she worked in the criminal appeals and child prosecution divisions. She also was the senior attorney for the National District Attorney’s Association, assigned to the National Traffic Law Center, where she trained prosecutors and police officers nationwide in effective prosecution of impaired driving cases.
She has also served on the Utah Prosecution Council Training Committee, the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor’s Advisory Committee and the Statewide Association of Prosecution Legislation Action Committee.
Frost graduated with a bachelors degree in history and secondary education from Brigham Young University and graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1985.
Frost accepted Huntsman’s nomination, saying, “I am honored to have been appointed by Gov. Huntsman to the 2nd District Juvenile Court,” adding, “I am pleased to accept this appointment and pledge to faithfully fulfill the obligations and duties of a juvenile court judge.”
Her appointment would fill one of three upcoming vacancies in the 2nd District., which also include Ogden judges Roger Dutson and Parley Baldwin.
