The May, 2009 event will be the 11th annual bird festival, the state’s largest. It will continue to include a photo/text contest.
The contest is being organized by the Bountiful Photography Club, with entries to be displayed during the festival, which will be headquartered at the Davis County Events Center, here.
Photographers will provide photos of Great Salt Lake birds for use in the contest. Photos will then be available on the festival web site, www.greatsaltlakebirdfest.com.
Students grades kindergarten-12th can use these photos, take one of their own (see rule sheet), or draw a picture of a Utah bird. Students will then add their own text about the bird they have chosen.
Only one entry per student will be accepted and are due by May 1 at 5 p.m. at the Davis County Memorial Courthouse, 28 E. State Street, Room 221, Farmington.
Entries should reflect the spirit of birds in their natural habitat found within the boundaries of the state.
Finished products will include a photo/picture with text and a hanging wire for display. Entries will be judged and first, second and third place awards presented.
First place winner will receive $50, second place $25, and third place, $15.
A panel of volunteer judges will independently select entries for the three top places. Entries will be displayed as part of the bird festival.
Awards will be given at the “Quackers and Cheese” reception Friday, May 15, 2009 at 6 p.m. at the Events Center, 151 S. 1100 W., Farmington.
